Si te gusta alguien es preferible no dedicarle temas de rock que te gusten mucho, porque si la relación no funciona o algo sale mal, después el recuerdo de esa persona queda asociado para siempre a esa canción que tanto te gustaba y terminás odiándola. (El autor de este consejo es @iMaxi_, asi que ya saben con quién discutir si no están de acuerdo)

If you like someone, it is better not to dedicate songs that you like too much to that someone, because if the relationship doesnt work out or something goes wrong, the memory of that "someone" keeps asociated for ever to the song that you liked so much and you finally hate it. Dejar en los demás esa impresión de "persona imposible de amar" o de "persona que no tiene sexo" sólo es aceptable en los músicos de rock, por ejemplo en Morrissey. Y hace sentido justamente porque todos sabemos que no es cierto. No intenten repetir esta conducta, ni hacerlo en sus casas, porque lo único que van a generar en los demás es pena.

Showing in public the appearence of "unloveable" or "unfuckable" only can be admitted in rock stars, for instance in Morrissey. This idea makes sense because we know that it is not true; but if you try to show yourself like that, you'll only get that the others feel pitty for you. So, don't even try it.

Un verdadero fan de una banda de rock debe saber cuáles son las bandas anteriores en las que tocaron sus miembros. Es absolutamente inaceptable que muchos declaren su devoción por New Order y al mismo tiempo no tengan ni idea sobre la existencia de Joy Division.

A true fan of a rock band must know -at least- which were the previous bands where the members of the band used to play. It is absolutely unnaceptable that many people express their devotion for New Order but -at the same time- have no idea about the existence of Joy Division.

Sonic Youth, en su tema "Or" pregunta qué viene primero, si la música o la letra. La respuesta es clara, nos gusta el rock, porque nos gusta la música. Si a la pregunta de porqué te gusta un músico, la única respuesta que podes dar es que te gustan sus letras, posiblemente no te guste tanto la música y prefieras la poesía. Para eso están los libros.

Sonic Youth in the song "Or", makes this question: what does come first? The music or the lyrics?. The answer is clear, we like rock because we love the music. If you are asked for the reasons why you like a musician and you just can say that you like him because you love his lyrics, probably you don't like the music so much and prefer the poetry. And that is what books are for.

Para ser fan de una banda es conveniente saber el nombre de todos sus miembros. Queda muy mal conocer  sólo el nombre del cantante y referirse al resto de los músicos como: "el guitarrista", "el que toca el bajo", etc. 

It is very useful to know the name of all the members of a band, to be a real fan of it. It is awful to know just the singer's name and refer to the other musicians as: "the guitar player", "the dude who plays the bass", etc.

Escuchen a David Bowie. Está adelantado a su tiempo, como mínimo desde 1967.

Listen to David Bowie. He is ahead of his time, at least since 1967.

Es totalmente inadmisible basar el saber sobre bandas de rock en sus discos recopilatorios o "grandes éxitos". Esa clase de discos ni siquiera puede aceptarse como un regalo para introducir a alguien en el conocimiento de una banda. Es más, en caso de que tengan muchos "grandes éxitos" o "lo mejor de" en sus estantes, es mejor esconderlos. 

It is totally unacceptable to base the knowledge of rock bands in their compilations or "greatest hits". That kind of discs can not even be accepted as a gift to introduce someone in the knowledge of a band. Further more, if you have many "greatest hits" or "the best of" in your shelves, it is better to start hiding them.
